Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information KidsEventsThisWeek.com collects when you visit, how we use it, and what choices you have. We've written it in plain English because the legalese versions nobody reads don't actually help anyone.
What We Collect
We collect very little. Here's what happens when you visit:
- Basic analytics: Page views, general location (country/state level), browser type, referring URL, and time on page. This helps us understand which cities and events are most useful to people.
- Approximate location: To show the "Near you" suggestion on the home page, we look up the approximate area (city level) that your internet provider associates with your connection. This happens on the fly, is used only to suggest your nearest city page, and is never stored on our servers or tied to you.
- Cookies: We use cookies to make the site work, to power Google Analytics, and to show ads through Google AdSense (see "Cookies" and "Advertising" below).
- Emails you send us: If you email us at info@kidseventsthisweek.com, we keep that message to respond to you. We don't add you to any mailing list unless you specifically ask to be added.
We do not collect your name, address, phone number, or payment information. There's no account to create, no form to fill out, and no subscription required to use the site.
How We Use It
The analytics data helps us figure out which city pages to build next, which event types are most popular, and whether the site is actually working well for people. That's it.
We don't sell your data to anyone. The usage data we collect is processed through Google Analytics purely so we can measure and improve the site. The site may also show ads through Google AdSense, which helps cover the cost of running it (see "Advertising" below).
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. The ones we use fall into two categories:
- Essential cookies: Required for basic site functionality. You can't opt out of these and still use the site.
- Analytics cookies: Set by Google Analytics to count visits and understand how people use the site. You can disable these in your browser settings, with an extension like uBlock Origin, or with Google's official opt-out browser add-on.
- Advertising cookies: Set by Google AdSense to show ads and, where you've allowed it, to personalize them. See "Advertising" below for what this means and how to opt out.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads on the site. This is how we keep the site free to use. What that means for you:
- Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and opt out of many third-party advertising cookies at www.aboutads.info. Ads still appear, but they won't be personalized.
- Google processes this data under its own advertising privacy policy.
Data Stored on Your Device
The site can be installed as an app on your phone or computer ("Add to Home Screen"). To make that work well, your browser stores a few things on your device only — none of it is ever sent to us:
- Your last-viewed city: We remember the last city page you looked at so that, when you open the installed app, it takes you straight back there instead of the home page.
- Offline copies of pages: Pages and images you've recently viewed are cached by your browser so the site loads faster and shows a friendly offline page when you have no connection.
You can clear all of this at any time by clearing your browser's site data for kidseventsthisweek.com, or by uninstalling the app. Nothing breaks — the site just forgets your last city.
Third-Party Services
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used — which pages get visited, roughly where visitors are located (country/state level), and how they found us. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects usage data, which Google processes under its own privacy policy. We use it solely to measure traffic. We also use Google AdSense for advertising, described in the "Advertising" section above.
Event listings on this site link to third-party websites. Once you leave our site, their privacy policies apply — not ours. We're not responsible for how those sites handle your data.
Children's Privacy
Our site is aimed at parents and caregivers, not at children directly. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us somehow, please contact us and we'll delete it promptly.
Your Choices
You can:
- Use a browser with tracking protection enabled (Firefox, Brave, Safari all do this by default)
- Disable cookies in your browser settings
- Install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on
- Opt out of personalized ads in Google's Ads Settings
- Email us to ask what data, if any, we have related to you
- Ask us to delete any email correspondence you've sent us
Data Retention
Analytics data is retained in aggregate form and is not tied to individual users. Email correspondence is kept only as long as it's useful for resolving your inquiry.
Changes to This Policy
If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top. We're not going to quietly change things and hope you don't notice.
