Meet the Lar Gibbon keeper and learn more about the 2 Gibbon at the El Paso Zoo: Lucy and Thai! Lar Gibbon is a Lesser Ape that is currently listed as Endangered by the IUCN. Lesser Apes are different from monkeys, primarily due to lack of a tail. The Lar Gibbon is endangered because of deforestation and habitat loss in their home region of Southeast Asia. Lucy, the 11-year-old female Gibbon has been at the El Paso Zoo for 2 years. She came from Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, TX. Thai, the 13-year-old male Gibbon has been at the El Paso zoo for the same amount of time, and he comes from Hogle Zoo in Utah.
