6:00 Parent & Me: Guppies

The Redding Aquatic Center offers a variety of swim lesson options to meet the needs of swimmers of all abilities and ages. Select from swim lesson options divided by age, skill level, and time of day. The goal of the Redding Aquatic Center Swim lesson program is to teach as many people as possible the fundamentals of swimming, how to be safe in & around the water, and how to use swimming for fitness. Between-group lessons and private lessons, there is something for everyone! Get ready for Summer fun in the water! Our 2-week Summer sessions begin June 23rd - July 3rd. Before getting started to help know which level your child may be in, please see the categories below- Parent & Me - Age: 6 months- 5 years. Teacher to student ratio: 1 to 12. An Adult must be in the water with the child at all times. Little ones learn swimming readiness and love the water through games and songs. Twice Weekly: This class meets two times a week over the span of 4 weeks. Level I Beginner: Guppies (6-18 months) Swimming readiness, in-water holding techniques. Level II Intermediate: Minnows (18 months- 5 years) In-water holding techniques, become more independent in the water, floating, kicking and gliding, and rhythmic breathing. Preschool- Age: 3-5 years. Teacher to student ratio: 1 to 5. Students only. Adults may observe from the pool deck. Toddlers learn swimming independence, how to submerge their face, and control breathing. They also learn to love the water through games and songs. Level I Beginner: Goldfish (3-5 years) Supported floating, gliding, and arm movement (if your child likes to put their face in the water, skip to Blue Gill!) Level II Intermediate: Blue Gill (3-5 years) Swimming independently on front and back, coordinating breathing with arm movements. School Age- Age: 6 and up. Teacher to student ratio: 1 to 6. Students only, adults may observe from the pool deck. Students learn swimming independence, how to control breathing, and begin to learn swimming fundamentals. Level I Beginner: Trout (6+) Submerging their face and breath control, supported floating, kicking, gliding and arm movement. (if your child likes to put their face in the water, skip to Bass!) Level II Intermediate: Bass (6+) Swimming independently on front and back, coordinating breathing with arm movements, and underwater exploration. Level III Advanced: Snapper (6+) Swimming independently for 25 yds, freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, and side breathing. Level IV Advanced: Salmon (6+) Stroke technique in freestyle and backstroke, introduction to breaststroke, continuous side-breathing and endurance of 15-25 yrds. Aqua Athletes- Age: 6 and up. Teacher to student ratio: 1 to 10. Students here should be confident and comfortable in the water. Aqua Athletes learn advanced swimming techniques to prepare them for competitive swimming. Aqua Athletes Level V: Stroke refinement on freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Emphasis on endurance swimming 50 yds on each stroke listed above, and introduction to dolphin kick, open turns, and sidestroke. Aqua Athletes Level VI: Stroke technique in the four competitive strokes and sidestroke swimming 50-100 yds in each. Introduction to butterfly starts and flip turns, the basics of competitive swimming (pre-swim team).
