Junior Lifeguard Camp

Junior Lifeguard Camp: Monday – Wednesdays Participants may register for the full season at $150 or attend individual sessions at $75 each. Ages : 11 – 15 years old Season Dates : June Session: Monday, June 8 – Tuesday, June 30, 2026 July Session: Monday, July 6 - Wednesday, July 22, 2026 Class Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Daily Lunch Break: 12:00 PM – 12:45 PM Junior Lifeguard Camp is tailored for youth aged 11-15, aiming to establish a solid foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills essential for potential future roles as lifeguards. Throughout the season, participants will receive comprehensive coaching covering topics such as First Aid, water safety awareness, CPR, rescue techniques, and physical skill development activities. They will engage in a diverse range of water and land-based activities, fostering fitness, self-esteem, and teamwork skills crucial for their personal growth. Participants will also have the opportunity to shadow El Centro Lifeguards during surveillance duties, gaining real-time, on-the-job training experiences. All hours will be tracked on a personal timesheet, which will be reviewed regularly by our instructors to ensure proper progress and accountability. Participants must be able to demonstrate the following skills from the American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard requirements: Swim freestyle for 25 yards continuously while breathing to the front or side. Swim breaststroke for 25 yards using a pull, breathe, kick, and glide sequence. Tread water for 1 minute using arms and legs. Show a level of comfort on the back by floating on the back for 30 seconds or swimming on the back for 25 yards using the elementary backstroke or backstroke. Submerge and swim a distance of 10 feet under water. Participants who complete 80% of the season (68 hours out of the total 84 instructional hours) and pass the written test with a score of 80% or better will receive their American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification.
