Rent: School Edition
RJJT’s Summer Teen Production…Rent School Edition, set in the East Village of New York City, is a musical about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, it has become a pop cultural phenomenon with songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages. Based loosely on Puccini's La Boheme, Rent School Edition follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical.Auditions will take place on Monday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 9 (choose one day), and callbacks will be held Wednesday, June 10 and Thursday, June 11. Bring an audition song and be prepared to dance. A completed conflict calendar, with all known conflicts, must be submitted on the first day of auditions.Rehearsals begin June 15 and will take place Monday through Friday, 4:30-7 p.m. Individual schedules will vary with part received. Rehearsal schedules will be distributed when casting is complete. Beginning, Friday, July 24, rehearsals will be held 4:30-7:30 p.m. Performances of this production will be Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, August 2, 2 p.m. Participants are responsible for providing basic costume pieces, outside of what's purchased from the paid lab fee amount, and dance shoes.
