Burleson's city park system is solid for a Johnson County suburb of 50,000 — Bailey Lake covers 49 acres with a fishing lake, and Centennial Park is fully accessible with sensory panels and adaptive swings. Mansfield's well-funded parks add the standouts within a 20-minute drive.
1. Warren Park (Burleson)
Location: 301 SW Johnson Ave, Burleson, TX 76028
4.55-acre central park with two playgrounds, lighted basketball and tennis courts, a multi-use court, a pavilion, and picnic areas with grills. The two playgrounds let you rotate kids between structures when one gets crowded.
Parent tip: Lighted courts mean evening visits work in summer. Pavilion is first-come on weekdays.
For current hours and seasonal closures, see the official Warren Park page.
2. Bailey Lake Park (Burleson)
Location: 280 W Hidden Creek Pkwy, Burleson, TX 76028
49-acre community park with an 8-acre fishing lake, an 18-hole disc golf course, walking trails (0.6 miles around the lake), and picnic pavilions. The fishing lake is the standout — most Burleson parks don't have one.
Parent tip: Texas kids under 17 fish free, no license required. Disc golf course is short — good for kids 8+ learning the sport.
3. Oak Valley Park North (Burleson)
Location: 804 Parkridge Blvd, Burleson, TX 76028
17.86-acre park with a newly renovated playground, walking trail, nature trail, shaded picnic areas, and restrooms. The nature trail is a quieter alternative to Bailey Lake's busier paved loop.
Parent tip: Open 6am-10pm. Newer playground equipment in good shape.
4. Centennial Park (Burleson)
Location: 1100 Scarlet Sage Pkwy, Burleson, TX 76028
5.2-acre fully accessible park with an all-inclusive playground, sensory panels, adaptive swings, a 0.2-mile walking trail, and a covered pavilion. The sensory panels and adaptive equipment make this the right pick for mixed-ability families.
Parent tip: Newer park, equipment in great shape. Sensory panels are great for kids on the autism spectrum.
5. Bicentennial Park (Crowley) (Crowley)
Location: 900 E Glendale St, Crowley, TX 76036
Shaded playground, splash pad (seasonal), walking path, event pavilion, and picnic pavilions on a single site. The shade is the standout — Crowley summers are brutal and few neighborhood parks have decent shade.
Parent tip: Splash pad opens 10am-8pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day. Pavilions are reservable.
For weather closures, seasonal restrictions, or maintenance schedules, view the Bicentennial Park (Crowley) city page.
6. Joshua City Park (Joshua)
Location: 831 N Main St, Joshua, TX 76058
Community park with a playground, baseball/softball fields, picnic areas, and a splash pad facility on-site. Joshua is small (~7k pop) so this is the main public park option — clean and well-maintained.
Parent tip: Open 5am-11pm. Splash pad opens Memorial Day through Labor Day, 10am-8pm.
Closures are rare, but you can confirm real-time operations on the Joshua City Park facilities status page before packing up the car.
7. Katherine Rose Memorial Park (Mansfield) (Mansfield)
Location: 303 N Walnut Creek Dr, Mansfield, TX 76063
33 acres, forest-themed, with a custom Quantis figure-eight play structure and a 12-foot Walnut squirrel statue kids climb on. Walnut Creek Linear Trail runs through, so you can extend the visit into a long stroller walk. Mansfield invests well in parks and this one shows it.
Parent tip: Park near the Walnut Creek trailhead lot — the south-side playground lot fills up fast on weekend mornings.
Before you load up the car, review the Katherine Rose Memorial Park (Mansfield) page for maintenance or event closures.
How we picked these
Every pick is free, public, and has at least one full operating season. We weighed playground quality across age ranges, whether the park supports a multi-hour visit, shade and restroom access, and what Burleson and Mansfield-area parents on Google and the local moms-group threads consistently flag. No paid placements.
Planning your visit
Burleson parks are open 5:30am-10pm or similar; Mansfield runs 5am-11pm. Plan playground visits before 11am or after 6pm from June through September. Pack water, sunscreen, and snacks. For more kids' events near Burleson this week, see the Burleson events page.
