Waxahachie runs three free city splash pads through August 31 (George Brown Plaza downtown, Railyard Park, and Matthew's Park). For the biggest feature sets and the longest season, the regional standouts are Midlothian's 4,500-square-foot pad and Mansfield's four splash parks — all free, all within a 25-mile drive. Geyer Commons in Mansfield is the only one open year-round.
1. Midlothian Community Park Splash Pad (Midlothian)
Location: 3601 S 14th St, Midlothian, TX 76065
4,500 sq ft splash pad at a major recreation complex — biggest in the area. Water is not recycled (fresh-water system), which matters for kids with sensitive skin. The 105-acre park around it has an inclusive playground, fishing lake, and walking trails for a full half-day visit.
Parent tip: Open 8am-9pm seasonally. Park near the playground lot to be closest to the splash pad.
Want to check if the fountains are running today? See live maintenance updates on the official Midlothian Community Park portal.
2. Rotary Park Splash Pad (Ennis)
Location: 2300 Park St, Ennis, TX 75119
Splash pad at 35.5-acre Rotary Park around historic Old City Lake. The lakeside setting is the differentiator — most splash pads sit in flat civic plazas; this one sits inside a real park with beach volleyball, a fitness court, and a mile-long paved trail.
Parent tip: Open daily seasonally, May through August. Pair with the paved lake trail for a longer visit.
For weather closures, seasonal restrictions, or maintenance schedules, view the Rotary Park city page.
3. Clayton W. Chandler Park Splash Pad (Mansfield)
Location: 1530 N Walnut Creek Dr, Mansfield, TX 76063
One of four Mansfield free splash pads — button-activated spray system with multiple ground jets and vertical elements. Rentable pavilions sit adjacent to the splash area. Open May 22 through September 27; hours scale back to weekday mornings in the shoulder weeks.
Parent tip: Open 10am-8pm daily May 22–Sept 7; 10am-2pm weekdays Sept 8–27; 10am-8pm weekends through Sept 27. Pavilion rentals fill fast for birthday parties — weekday mornings are calmest.
Closures are rare, but you can confirm real-time operations on the Clayton W. Chandler Park facilities status page before packing up the car.
4. Collini Park Splash Pad (Mansfield)
Location: 2121 Gertie Barrett Rd, Mansfield, TX 76063
Neighborhood splash pad with a rentable pavilion, open May 2 through September 27 (10am-8pm). Less crowded than Chandler on summer Saturdays — a reliable fallback when the bigger parks are at capacity. Button-activated system.
Parent tip: Open May 2–Sept 27, 10am-8pm daily. Pavilion is reservable — check the Mansfield parks website. Find the red or blue pole with a silver button to activate the spray.
5. McClendon Park West Splash Pad (Mansfield)
Location: 799 W Broad St, Mansfield, TX 76063
Fourth Mansfield splash pad, open May 2 through September 27 (10am-8pm). The most out-of-the-way of the four — often empty on weekday mornings, which makes it the best pick when you want the kids to have the jets to themselves.
Parent tip: Open May 2–Sept 27, 10am-8pm. Often the emptiest of the four Mansfield pads on weekday mornings.
6. Geyer Commons Splash Pad (Mansfield)
Location: 605 E Broad St, Mansfield, TX 76063
The only year-round splash pad on this list — open 9am-9pm daily, 365 days a year. Downtown Mansfield location with restaurants nearby for lunch. Button-activated timer system keeps water use efficient. No lifeguards; parent supervision required.
Parent tip: Year-round operation makes this the right pick for warm winter afternoons (60°F+) when every other pad for 25 miles is closed. No pavilion here — it's first-come civic plaza seating.
How we picked these
Every pick is free, public, and has at least one full operating season. We weighed feature mix, restroom access, shade, and what Ellis County and surrounding-area parents on Google and the moms-group threads keep recommending. No paid placements.
Planning your visit
Midlothian and Mansfield pads run May through late September, 9am to 8 or 9pm. Geyer Commons is year-round. Pack water shoes (concrete burns by midday), towels, dry clothes, and snacks. Swim diapers required for pre-potty-trained kids. For more kids' events near Waxahachie this week, see the Waxahachie events page.
